Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at all of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from Piastri by just one point after his victory in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he rotated at the fourth corner soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before sliding over the escape zone, and was fortunate to get away with just a minor contact of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the last turn on to the pit straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds off the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
