It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
